Ready? Set? Run!

Tomorrow is the first race of the season. We are all excited to get our season started with a bang. Getting ready for the third most important race of the year (1st is the Bluenose Marathon, 2nd is the last race) takes some preparation though.
My day, like a lot of others lately, was spent at the school. The excitement for the start of the season of our school’s biggest sport was palpable in the air. I spent the first few hours of the day doing PTA stuff with lil mr’s “help”. From there, I headed around to get stuff ready for the race. I wasn’t able to find the school banner so I’m just hoping the coach (aka the gym teacher) has it with him tomorrow.
I did my regular school stuff then headed home to grab stuff for after school. Not only were there preparations to be done today, it was also 18°C. The kids NEEDED playtime outside before we came home. I set up the bubbles again and we stayed at the school until it was time to make supper.
After supper, lil miss and lil Mr headed home. I was planning on having them help get stuff ready, but that just wasn’t going to happen. T and L also had to do homework.
Once the “regular” stuff for the day was done, we really needed to get cracking on prep. It took some time for the boys to find their school shirts but they were eventually hauled out to be ready for the race. Once I had approved their pants (this is necessary because they like pants that are too big but those seriously hamper their speed) and they picked out socks, it was time to start on the food.
Grammy is bringing the cheese and grapes (two must haves for every race) and aunt N is bringing the jugs of water, so we just had to work on the other stuff. The cooler was pulled out of storage and cleaned. It is now sitting in the kitchen waiting to be filled.
Crackers, sandwiches and a baked good are the other things we (almost) always take with us. Unfortunately, I haven’t had much time to bake lately. We ended up making three dozen whole wheat banana muffins. They finished baking around 9:30.
Muffins baked, sandwiches made, cooler ready to be loaded, running outfits laid out, and crackers packed, I think we might, finally, be ready to run. Here’s hoping Grammy remembers the grapes, cheese and team tent!

No matter how dark the day, the sun is always shining somewhere!

I’m not running it myself. I’m just part of our school’s support team for the youth run! Good luck on your run. Hope you make your goal time. 🙂
